The School of Journalism runs free journalism masterclasses, Q&A sessions and open days aimed at those looking to start a degree in 2021 or 2022, all of which are currently run remotely using Zoom. The sessions are hosted by our award-winning editors and training team , giving you a glimpse into the industry and the sort of training you’d receive as a student on our BA (Hons) Journalism degree .
While traditional reporting relies on hard facts, gonzo journalism takes readers a step inside the mind and feelings of the writer as the story unfolds. The oldest journalism association in the United States, the SPJ aims to promote the First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and freedom of the press, partly by encouraging reporters to practice the high standards in its ethics code. Each Science Journalism Master Class drills into one skill or habit, presented in a series of five to eight lessons, delivered by email once a day until you’ve completed the course. You’ll have daily (brief) homework assignments, and at the end of each course, you’ll come away with greater mastery of your craft. The lectures run for more than an hour, after which students and practitioners of journalism will be able to structure a news article with ease and precision for any of the world's top publications.
